How to meet a person who is worth $ 1.3b?

With Sir Kishore Biyani

Exactly a year back, I was reading “It Happened in India” – a book about the story of Kishore Biyani and how he built his empire. I was flabbergasted by the way he built it one brick at a time. I like such persons who go beyond the odds and create something unimaginable in short amount of time. They are the ones who think possibilities and burn impossibleness to its ashes. Kishore Biyani who is now the King of Organised Retailing in India made every possible stride to understand the purchasing behaviours of frugal India. Then he built the entire concept around that, and I would say he is successful just because of that. Big Bazaar, Food Bazaar, Central mall, Pantaloons have this in common. While I was reading that book, I was thinking to myself that I must meet him one day! True to the words of Paulo Coelho,

โ€œAnd, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.โ€

I met him.

Oh coming to the topic, how did Iย meet him? The answer is simple. If you are lucky and sit in Mumbai International airport for hours, then chances are you can spot him and click a picture with him, just like how I did! As simple as that ๐Ÿ˜€ That is also a reason I like about airports. If you spend some time in the airports gazing at people around, you might be lucky to spot few people. That is how I met some cine-actors too. If you are super fortunate, you may spot extreme starts like Sachin Tendulkar sometimes.

However, few words about my experience meeting Mr. Biyani. I was super excited sitting in the airport (Even before I even thought I will get a chance to meet Biyani), because I was on a surprise visit to home and I was already imagining how my family members will react to me. While I was dreaming about that, I saw a man who was quickly rushing to catch some flight in a simple and elegant attire. “Oh wait! I know this guy! He is quite famous” was my reaction at once. He had already gone half way through the escalator. Then the bulb inside my head turned on! Kishore Biyani – That’s the man said my inner voice. At once I ran behind him pushing aside all others on the escalator. With heavy breathing, I put his hands over his shoulders and said “Kishore Ji, How are you”, as if he was my uncle ๐Ÿ˜› . If you read “It happened in India, you will feel that finally ๐Ÿ™‚ ” . He turned his head and smiled, and he was trying to recognise who I was. Then I told him, “Please don’t think hard, I am an ardent fan of yours and I was inspired reading “It happened in India”. Hearing that, he smiled and asked what I was doing. I told about myself and later he asked, “What is your dream ?” without any hesitation, I said, “I want to become like KB” (Kishore Biyani). He smiled more than he did before, and I asked him, “Can I take a picture with you Kishore Ji?”. “Of course of course”, he said. The person accompanying him was so generous to take a picture and thanks to him for the picture that you see above. Then he shook hands and wished me “All the best” and left. I was gleaming with joy and happiness!

Dream come true!
